Assistant Director of The House: Sydney Feeney, M.S.

Sydney Feeney started her journey as the Assistant Director of the Afro-American Cultural Center in October of 2024. Sydneywas born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut and grew up in the Dwight Area. Sydney is a first-generation college student, who earned her Bachelor’s Degree in political science at the University of Connecticut, in Storrs, CT. During her time at UConn, Sydney held a variety of roles including working at the Rainbow Center, where she served the LGBTQIA+ community. She also worked to develop leaders in the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Development, where she would be inducted into the Nu Mu chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. After she graduated from the University of Connecticut, she went on to Miami University (Ohio) where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. During her time at Miami, she was a part of the Students of Color Graduate Association, she advised the National Pan-Hellenic Council (also known as the Divine 9), and worked to provide resources to students of color in the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. After graduating from Miami University, Sydney sought opportunities that would allow her to continue to serve students from underrepresented backgrounds. Sydney has served in various roles in higher and secondary education working in DEI, adjunct teaching, first-generation success, service learning, and programming. Her passions include contributing to Black Feminist Thought and Critical Race Theory literature, curriculum development, and incorporating mindfulness into her every day practice. As a student affairs practitioner, Sydney prides herself on building rapport with students to best challenge and support them. She believes that learning and understanding is the key to self-connection and growth, and the day that we stop learning, is the day that we stop growing.
